Ship Repair Center «ZVEZDOCHKA» has started the anniversary navigation of the oldest ship in Russia

The Zvezdochka Ship Repair Center part of the «United Shipbuilding Corporation JSC / has started the 110th anniversary navigation of the «N. V. Gogol», the only wheeled steamer in Russia. On Friday, May 28, the oldest domestic vessel in regular operation made the first navigation voyage of 2021.

The solemn opening of the anniversary navigation for the steamer took place in Arkhangelsk on the Red Pier. The ceremony was attended by representatives of regional and municipal authorities, Rosmorport, tourist organizations of Pomerania. During the solemn events, a number of employees of the «Zvezdochka» who made a significant contribution to the preservation of the unique vessel were awarded letters of thanks and certificates from the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, the Governor of the Arkhangelsk Region, the Regional Assembly of Deputies, the heads of municipalities of Arkhangelsk and Severodvinsk.

Оne of the first passengers of the jubilee navigation were medical workers of the Central Medical Unit No. 58 of the FMBA of Russia, the Severodvinsk City Clinical Hospital No. 2 and the Severodvinsk Ambulance Station. The pleasure trips organized for the doctors by the «Zvezdochka» Ship Repair Center became a sign of appreciation for their contribution to the health of shipbuilders, an assessment of the huge efforts to counter the spread of coronavirus infection and the rehabilitation of northerners who had been ill with COVID-19.

Navigation of the steamship «N. V. Gogol» will last until the end of September 2021. During this time, the ship will perform about fifty flights and will carry about four thousand passengers. Upon completion of navigation, the vessel will return to the berth of the «Zvezdochka», where work will be carried out on the ship during the inter-navigation period to maintain the serviceable technical condition of the ship’s machines and mechanisms.

The steamship «N. V. Gogol» was built in 1911 at the shipyard of the Nizhny Novgorod Sormovsky plant (now PJSC «Krasnoe Sormovo Plant»). Until 1972, it was operated on the Northern Dvina on the routes Arkhangelsk-Kotlas-Veliky Ustyug. In 1972, it was decommissioned and assigned for disposal. In the same year, it was acquired by the «Zvezdochka» machine-building enterprise as a rack vessel. After the works on restoration of technical readiness, repair of machinery and mechanisms were carried out at the Severodvinsk shipyard, the operation of the steamer was resumed as a pleasure and tourist vessel.

The steamship «N. V. Gogol» is a historical monument of regional significance, marked with the sign «Maritime Heritage of Russia». In 2010, the ship became the winner of the National Tourist Award named after Yu. Senkevich. As the oldest vessel making passenger flights, the steamer «N. V. Gogol» is included in the Book of Records of Russia.

The main characteristics of the vessel: length-72 m, maximum width-14 m, draft-1.4 m. The power of the steam engine is 380 hp. Passenger capacity-up to 120 people.
